Sewell and Mary Jane (Tait) Severance family

Sewell and Mary Jane Severance moved to Houghton Township at Norfolk County, Ontario in 1856.  Their oldest daughter, Sarah Jane, was born in Rockport Cape Anne, Maine; the rest were all born at Houghton.  The children were: Sarah Jane born 24-Nov-1854, John William born about 24-Nov-1857, Eban born about 29-Jun-1859, Melvin B. born about 27-Apr-1861, Rosamond born about 29-Oct-1864, and Mary Rosalina born 4-Nov-1870.  there may have been other children, but these are the ones in the photo below except Sarah Jane, who was already in Michigan at the time raising the first 6 of her own children.

The 6 in the back row (l to r) are: Melvin, Rosalina, John, Eban, Charles MacDonald and Rosamond.  Charles was Rosamond's husband  Sitting in front are Sewell Severance and his wife, Mary Jane (Tait) Severance.  This picture was taken on December 27, 1887 in front of the Severance house in Houghton Township.  (Again, for those interested, Houghton is pronounced by the locals there as "How-ton" or "How-tn")
