Owen and Sarah Jane (Severance) Teeple family

Way back on January 18, 1875, Owen F. Teeple of Vittoria, Ontario married his sweetheart from neighboring Houghton Township. (Since it was Canada it might be more appropriate to say 'Neighbouring Houghton Township', but I digress!  Miss Sarah Jane Severance became Sarah Jane Teeple.  Sarah was born in Rockport Cape Anne, Mass. the oldest child of Sewell and Mary Jane (Tait) Severance.

Sewell was born April 03, 1831 at Tuftonboro, NH.  His family traces back almost to pilgrim times on this continent.  Mary Jane's family had come to Nova Scotia from her birthplace in Scotland only a few years prior to her January 28, 1854 marriage to Sewell at Lovell, Maine.  Sewell and Mary Jane moved to Rockport where Sarah Jane was born November 24, 1854, then in 1856 they moved to Houghton* Township in Norfolk County, Ontario where they remained.  Sewell and Mary Jane are buried there at the Cultas United Cemetery. *Note: if you find yourself in Ontario and are looking for the place you will need to pronounce it 'How-ten' - if you call it 'Hoe-ton' they will look at you funny.
